ROCHESTER — John P. Dirico, 52, Warsaw, driver of a box truck, was involved in a vehicle/bicycle accident Thursday, Sept. 7, on SR 110 in Rochester. He was not injured.
Nathanael Ramer, 19, Rochester, suffered a head injury after being thrown from his bicycle in the accident. He was airlifted by Samaritan air ambulance to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. His condition was not known late Thursday, but authorities reported he was conscious and alert.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Department reported at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, Fulton County 911 received a call of a personal injury accident on SR 110, near the address of 2555 E. SR 110. Upon arriving at the scene emergency personnel were told a white box truck involved had left the scene. The truck was located minutes later and the driver and vehicle returned to the scene.
Investigation by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department shows Ramer was riding in the westbound lane of SR 110, wearing a reflective vest, when he was struck by the passenger side mirror of the truck Dirico was driving. Dirico was also westbound at the time of the accident.
Fulton County Sheriff Christopher D. Sailors would like to remind motorists and the public to be aware of bicyclist and horse and buggy traffic in the area sharing the roadway in the area of SR 110. “We have had a marked increase of incidents involving motorists, bicycles, horse and buggies in the northern part of Fulton County. All parties need to be alert when riding and driving in the area.”
Assisting the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation were the Rochester Fire Department, Lutheran EMS-Fulton County, Indiana State Police, Samaritan and Fulton County Dispatch.
