MILFORD — The IRS phone scam has taken on a new twist.

Milford Town Marshal Rich Miotto has reported residents are receiving telephone calls from alleged IRS representatives and are being aggressive, including telling individuals there will or is a warrant out for his/her arrest. A phone number associated with the call is that of the Milford Police Department. Any individual returning the call or checking on the number will find the call answered by dispatchers with the Kosciusko County 911 Center.

Miotto warns persons receiving these calls that the IRS does not contact taxpayers by phone.

These calls are all fictitious and have no validity. Residents who receive a call from one of these scammers should hang up. Whether you provided personal information to the caller or not, you can report the call by visiting the IRS’s Impersonation Scam Reporting site.

For more information regarding the IRS Scams, contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration through their website or by calling (800) 336-4484.
