NORTHERN INDIANA — The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 8 p.m. tonight, Jan. 11, through 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12. The winter storm watch is no longer in effect.
All Northern Indiana counties, including Kosciusko, Elkhart, Marshall, Wabash, Fulton and Whitley counties are in the advisory.
NWS reports light snow will continue to develop early this evening and become moderate to heavy at times overnight into Tuesday as system snow tonight transitions to lake effect snow showers tomorrow. The total snow accumulation is projected to be three to six inches. Northwest winds will increase late tonight between 20 and 30 miles per hour and continue into Tuesday. This will create blowing and drifting snow.
Roads will become snow covered and hazardous tonight and driving may become difficult especially late tonight and Tuesday. Reduced visibility is expected due to falling and blowing snow. Near whiteout conditions are possible within heavier snow bands.
A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Motorist should be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility. Caution should be used while driving.
