Current weather outlook. (From National Weather Service Northern Indiana)

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a freezing rain advisory, which is in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, and a wind advisory from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.

The freezing rain advisory is for Noble, DeKalb, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, Kosciusko, Whitley and Allen counties.

Freezing rain is expected to lift northward across the area after daybreak Monday. Warmer air lifting northward should change the freezing rain to rain from south to north during the early to mid afternoon hours on Monday. Light ice accumulations of less than one tenth of an inch are expected. Dangerous travel conditions for motorists and pedestrians are possible due to the expectation of light ice accumulations.

The wind advisory includes LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaGrange, Steuben, Noble, DeKalb, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, Kosciusko, Whitley, Allen, White, Case, Miami, Wabash, Huntington, Grant, and counties in Michigan.

A period of east winds of 25 miles per hour to 35 mph with gusts to 40 mph to 45 mph is expected from late Monday morning to early Monday evening. Travel may become difficult for high profile vehicles. The combination of strong east winds and potential ice accumulations may result in some tree damage and power outages.
