LEESBURG — All are invited to attend a special ceremony for the annual displaying of Leesburg’s life-size Nativity at the town’s Clover Park at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. Clover Park is located on the south side of Van Buren Street in Leesburg.
The Nativity, which for many years was displayed in front of the bank on SR 15, had been in a great deal of disrepair. However Leesburg resident Dannielle Robertson, putting her experience as a set designer in California to good use, has been refurbishing the town’s local treasure over the last two years. This year she completed three more pieces which will be on display.
The ceremony will include some interesting facts about the origin and history of the Nativity pieces, as well as music by local musicians. Danielle Robertson will be present to share as well and Pastor Mike Beezley of the Clunette and Atwood Aldersgate United Methodist churches will share some inspiring words and conclude with a prayer.
Later in the afternoon the town will present its annual Leesburg Candelaria, lining the brick streets with approximately 1,300 paper bags filled with glowing candles. Viewers are encouraged to come check it out at 6 p.m. before heading to the old Town Hall building to spend some time eating cookies, sipping warm beverages, singing Christmas carols and taking pictures with Santa.
