Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Elkhart County, northeastern Fulton County, Kosciusko County, East Central LaPorte County, Marshall County, southern St. Joseph County and Starke County, at 4:51 p.m.

The warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m.

Towns in it’s path are Warsaw, Winona Lake, Syracuse, Mentone, Argos, Bourbon, Milford, Bremen, Nappanee, Dunlap, Plymouth, GOshen, North Liberty, Lakeville, Wakarusa, New Paris, Millersburg, Gulivoire Park, Hibbard and Maxinkuckee.

At 4:50 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located five miles southeast of Koontz Lake, moving east at 50 miles per hour.

Hazards with this storm are 70 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

Residents should expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings. For residents’ protection they should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Intense squall lines can sometimes produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, this storm may cause serious injury and significant property damage.
