WARSAW — The Kosciusko County Community Foundation has awarded a grant for $1,500.00, from the Myra Igo Haley Advised Fund, to the Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry 2015 “Meat” the Need donation program.

This grant will be used to pay processing fees for donated meat in Kosciusko County, which will then be distributed to area hunger relief agencies.

We will be working with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Bales Butcher Shop, and Five Oaks LLC, to ensure that residents in need within Kosciusko County, have access to this nutritious meat.

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry has partnered with 97 butcher shops, 11 Feeding America Food Banks and numerous other hunger relief agencies within 85 Indiana counties to help process over 400,000 pounds of meat in the last five years, providing almost 1.6 million meals to Indiana residents in need.

According to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, approximately 1 out of every 4 households within Indiana (that have children) report an inability to be able to afford enough food to feed their family and over 30 percent of Hoosiers regularly have to choose between paying bills or buying food. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry encourages hunters and farmers to donate large game and livestock to one of our participating butchers to be processed, packaged, and picked up by local hunger relief agencies to be distributed within the community that it was donated and where funding is available.

Donated-venisonThere are no charges or fees to the donor. This nutritious meat/protein is vital to brain and body development in children and young adults. It is also the hardest commodity for food banks to obtain. A grant for $1,500 will be used to process over 1,100 pounds of donated nutritious meat, providing almost 4,500 meals to residents in need.
