The severe thunderstorm warning has now been extended until 8 p.m. for Kosciusko County.
Northern Kosciusko County is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:30 p.m. today, March 18. Elkhart and northeastern Marshall county is also included in the warning.
At 6:43 p.m. severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Mishawaka to Plymouth, moving east at 35 miles per hour. Wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour are accompanying the storm.
Locations impacted include South Bend, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Goshen, Warsaw, Nappanee, Bremen, Syracuse, Dunlap, Wakarusa, Milford, North Webster, Millersburg, New Paris, Benton, Locke, Leesburg, Little Chapman Lake, Tippecanoe Lake and southwest.
A tornado watch remains in effect for the warning area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, if one is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room.
