A grant from the Kosciusko County Convention Recreation and Visitors Commission for disc golf equipment and installation was accepted by the Warsaw Board of Public Works & Safety Thursday morning.

KCCRVC provided a $4,800 grant toward purchase and installation of a 9-hole disc golf course at Lucerne Park. KCCRVC has also indicated should the course expand to an 18-hole course, it would be happy to participate in funding the expansion.

Tim Dombrosky, who presented the request and received approval from the park department for the course, also presented the request to accept the grant. He stated the course should be ready for use sometime in September. A kick-off tournament, including a tournament to get the senior center involved, will be planned for late September or early October.

During other business, two bids were opened on the resurfacing and reconstruction of Mariner’s Drive from Husky Trail to the Parkview/YMCA campus. While engineering amounts were not available, the bids were tabled until the July 17 meeting.

A base bid of $551,986 was received from Niblock Excavating, Bristol. Phend & Brown Inc., Milford, submitted a base bid of $549,970. Representatives of the companies asked if there was an engineer’s estimate or a budget for the project. Jeremy Skinner, city planner, stated he would send the engineer’s estimate, as he did not have it readily available.

A 12-hour closure of the east/west alley between Warsaw City Hall and the St. Regis Club was approved for Saturday, July 11. Urban Retrend made the request. The alley will be a wedding reception overflow, held between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Dave Gustafson, owner of Three Crowns Coffee, St. Regis Club and Oak & Alley Bar, was asked to come before the council in late July to provide information on his potential plans and improvements for the building/business.

Approval was also given to the new/hire/change in payroll report on four new street department employees. Jennifer Whitaker, director of human resources, was given the approval to proceed in creating a dedicated position for handling code enforcement office work. She noted over 500 code enforcement letters had been sent by the planning department in a year.

The next meeting  of the BOW will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17.
