Don’t Turn Off Water Yet

Almost a month ago, utility directors in Milford and Syracuse issued a freeze warning, asking town water users to run water from a faucet.

That warning is still in effect and will remain in effect until further notice.

Milford Utilities Superintendent Randy Veach stated it will get worse before it gets better. He explained as the days become warmer and the nights colder, the frost line will push further down. The frost line is still at 4 feet, but is expected to go deeper.

Veach is expecting the freeze warning will remain for another month or 1½ months. Several hydrants in Milford have been opened up to assist in keeping water lines from freezing.

Residents and businesses in both towns are still being asked to leave water run, at an inside cold-water faucet, until the utility departments notifies them otherwise.

The water should run in a small stream the size of a pencil lead.

Those leaving the water running should notify their respective clerk-treasurer’s office to water bills can be adjusted.

For Milford residents, individuals can call the Milford Town Hall at 574-658-4519. Syracuse residents should call the clerk-treasurer’s office at 574-457-3229.
