It was more about awareness than raising money Saturday morning at Warsaw High School’s cross country course and track field.

The second annual Run, Walk or Roll to benefit Warsaw Community High School’s Unified Track Team, a team comprised of special needs students and Warsaw Track team members. The event included a 5K and one-mile walk/run on perfect day for the event.

Over 120 participated in the 5K which began at 9 a.m. on the high school’s cross country course. After all participants completed the course, events moved over to the track field, where approximately 50 participants, including some of the 5K runners, walked or ran four laps around the quarter-mile track.

“I think it went really well,” said Brenda Linky, secondary special needs coordinator. “There was not as many per-registers as last year.” The fact it fell on a holiday weekend also may have brought numbers down. But Linky stressed it was not about raising money, but awareness of special needs.

While the highlight of the event was watching participants finish their races, a secondary highlight was a presentation by the Warsaw Athletic Booster Club presenting a $1,000 check to the Unified Track Team.
