Rumors of Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, filing an injunction against Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, from purchasing Multi-Township EMS, appear to be just that.
Tony Doyle, operations division chief for Multi-Township EMS, states he has heard the same rumors. “There’s a lot of information floating around … We have not been served any papers and neither has the hospital (KCH),” he stated.
The bottom line, the rumor cannot be substantiated at this time.
Doyle noted the service is investigating options to best serve the communities the EMS covers. An option is, the private not-for-profit emergency service , looking into the possibility of combining with Kosciusko Community Hospital, its sponsoring hospital. However, it is all in the initial stages.
Doyle stated the service has met with Parkview Hospital officials, who have asked if the ambulance service would bring patients to its free standing emergency room, once completed. Multi-Township has worked with Parkview in the past and plans to continue working with them in the future.
Doyle explained, unless there is a life-saving emergency, patients are now and will continue to be taken the hospital of their choice, whether it be KCH, IU Health Goshen, Elkhart General or other hospitals. There are protocols that may dictate overriding that choice.
“We will maintain the top-notch service we have, even if we align with a hospital,” said Doyle.
